Details
June is a wonderful time to learn about the birds of Maracaibo’s forest, meadows and shoreline. Year-round birds and returning summer residents are in their breeding plumage and singing their courting songs.
You do not need to be a birder to enjoy this walk. Simply an interest.
Two tools would be helpful:
  • Binoculars
  • Phone with the Merlin app installed.
What is the Merlin App?
  • Bird identification app developed by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University.
  • Both app and the bird packs are free. It is available for both iOS and Android devices.
Why is it helpful?
  • App identifies a bird by either sight or sound.  Sound identification is most helpful when many birds are singing.
How do you set-up the app?
  1. Google: Merlin Bird ID app
  2. Choose: Cornell Lab
  3. Select: the App Store for your device and follow the prompts
  4. Allow: Merlin Bird ID to use your location
  5. Select: View Packs
  6. Once in Bird Packs: search for Canada
  7. Select Canada West: and installation will begin
  8. Once installed: tap OK and proceed to sign in to create an account
