Event Description

Life in the Intertidal Zone

Curious about what lives and thrives in Maracaibo’s intertidal zone?

Low tide offers a wonderful opportunity to look for intertidal life.  As we walk along the shoreline
we will be looking on and under rocks, into cracks and crevices, and into tide pools to see what we can find.

Join Sarah Burwood and Nancy Gerrish for a guided walk exploring Maracaibo’s shoreline at low tide

Tips for a great experience:
  • Wear footwear you don’t mind getting wet and muddy
  • Download the free iNaturalist app to help identify your discoveries
  • Check the trail map here to find the beach
What it the iNaturalist App?
It’s a free, automated species identification tool for iOS and Android devices.

Why is it helpful?
It can identify any living thing - aquatic or terrestrial using photos or sound to provide a preliminary identification.  You then upload your photo and/or sound to the iNaturalist data base where experts review your data and provide an identification.

How do you download the app?
Search for iNaturalist in the Apple or Android App Store  or, go to https://www.inaturalist.com
